Question 94

When a discount of 20% is given on an African safari ticket, the profit is 43%. If the discount is 28%, then the profit is

Solution

Let marked price = Rs. $$100x$$

After 20% discount, selling price = $$\frac{100 - 20}{100} \times 100x$$ = Rs. $$80x$$

Let Cost price = Rs. $$y$$

=> Profit % = $$\frac{80x - y}{y} \times 100 = 43$$

=> $$\frac{80x - y}{y} = \frac{43}{100}$$

=> $$8000x - 100y = 43y$$

=> $$y = \frac{8000x}{143} \approx Rs. 56x$$

If, discount = 28%, => Selling price = $$\frac{100 - 28}{100} \times 100x = Rs. 72x$$

$$\therefore$$ Profit % = $$\frac{72x - 56x}{56x} \times 100 = \approx 28.7\%$$
