Find the number of triangles in the figure.

Solution

Smaller triangles = 3

Triangles formed with combination of 1 triangle and 1 quadrilateral = 3

Triangles formed with combination of 2 triangles and 2 quadrilaterals = 2

Triangles formed with 2 triangles = 2

Triangles formed with 3 triangles = 1

Larger triangles = 1

Thus, total triangles = 3 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 =12
