Question 93

If x - y = -9 and xy = -20, then find $$x^2 + y^2$$

Solution

Given : $$(x - y) = -9$$ and $$xy = -20$$

Using $$(x - y)^2 = x^2 + y^2 - 2xy$$

=> $$(-9)^2 = (x^2 + y^2) - (2 \times -20)$$

=> $$(x^2 + y^2) = 81 - 40 = 41$$

=> Ans - (B)
