20 kg of a mixture of wheat and husk contains 5% husk. How many kg more of husk must be added to make the husk content 20% in the new mixture?

Solution

% husk in 20 kg mixture = 5%

=> Quantity of husk = $$\frac{5}{100}\times20=1$$ kg

Let $$x$$ kg of husk is added

According to ques,

=> $$x+1=\frac{20}{100}\times(x+20)$$

=> $$5x+5=x+20$$

=> $$5x-x=20-5$$

=> $$4x=15$$

=> $$x=\frac{15}{4}=3.75$$

$$\therefore$$ 3.75 kg of husk must be added to make the husk content 20% in the new mixture.
