The area of a trapezium is 21 sq cm, the distance between the parallel sides is 3 cm and one of the parallel sides is 8.3 cm. What is the length of the other parallel side?
Let the length of other parallel side = $$x$$ cm
Height of the trapezium, $$h = 3$$ cm
Area of trapezium = $$\frac{1}{2} \times$$ (sum of parallel sides) $$\times$$ height
=> $$\frac{1}{2} \times (8.3+x) \times 3 = 21$$
=> $$8.3+x = \frac{21 \times 2}{3}$$
=> $$8.3+x = 14$$
=> $$x=14-8.3 = 5.7$$ cm
