Solution

We need to find the value of $$12 \times 3.5 - 8.5 \times 3.2$$

$$12 \times 3.5 = 42$$
and, $$8.5 \times 3.2 = 27.2$$

Hence, the difference equals $$42 - 27.2 = 14.8$$
