Question 83

If 5 - 5x < 4 - x and 2 - x < 6 - 4x, then x can take which of the following values?

Solution

Expression 1 : 5 - 5x < 4 - x

=> $$5x-x$$ > $$5-4$$

=> $$4x$$ > $$1$$

=> $$x$$ > $$\frac{1}{4}$$ ------------(i)

Expression 2 : 2 - x < 6 - 4x

=> $$4x-x$$ < $$6-2$$

=> $$3x$$ < $$4$$

=> $$x$$ < $$\frac{4}{3}$$ --------------(ii)

Combining inequalities (i) and (ii), we get : $$\frac{1}{4}$$ < $$x$$ < $$\frac{4}{3}$$

The only value that $$x$$ can take among the given options = 1

=> Ans - (A)
