Question 83

A person scores 45% of the total marks in the exam and still fails by 40 marks. The passing percentage of the exam is 55%. What is the maximum marks of the exam?

Solution

Let maximum marks = $$100x$$

=> Passing marks = $$\frac{55}{100} \times 100x = 55x$$

Marks scored = $$\frac{45}{100} \times 100x = 45x$$

According to ques,

=> $$55x - 45x = 40$$

=> $$x = \frac{40}{10} = 4$$

$$\therefore$$ Maximum marks = $$100 \times 4 = 400$$

=> Ans - (C)
