Question 82

A trader had 16 quintals of wheat. He sold a part of it at 17% profit and the rest at 27% profit, so that he made a total profit of 21%. How much wheat did he sell at 27% profit?

Solution

1 quintal = 100 kg => 16 quintals = 1600 kg

Let the part he sold at 27% profit = $$x$$ kg

=> Part he sold at 17% profit = $$(1600 - x)$$ kg

Total profit made by the trader = 21%

=> $$27x + 17 (1600 - x) = 21 \times 1600$$

=> $$27x + (17 \times 1600) - 17x = 21 \times 1600$$

=> $$10x = 1600 \times (21 - 17)$$

=> $$x = 160 \times 4 = 640$$ kg
