Question 81

The average of 8 consecutive natural numbers is 38.5. What is the largest of these 8 numbers?

Solution

Let the 8 consecutive natural numbers be $$(x+1),(x+2),(x+3),....,(x+8)$$

Average of these numbers = 38.5

=> $$\frac{(x+1)+(x+2)+(x+3)+....+(x+8)}{8}=38.5$$

=> $$8x+36=38.5\times8=308$$

=> $$8x=308-36=272$$

=> $$x=\frac{272}{8}=34$$

$$\therefore$$ Largest number = $$34+8=42$$

=> Ans - (C)
