Seven friends spent Rs 14 each on a project and the eighth friend spent Rs 21 more than the average expenditure of all eight of them. What is the amount of total money (in Rs) spent by them?

Solution

Let amount spent by the 8th friend = Rs. $$x$$

Amount spent by the 7 friends = $$14\times7=Rs.$$ $$98$$

Now, average expenditure of all 8 of them = $$\frac{(x+98)}{8}$$

According to ques,

=> $$x-\frac{(x+98)}{8}=21$$

=> $$\frac{8x-x-98}{8}=21$$

=> $$7x-98=21\times8=168$$

=> $$7x=168+98=266$$

=> $$x=\frac{266}{7}=38$$

$$\therefore$$ Total amount spent by all of them = Rs. $$38+98=Rs.$$ $$136$$

=> Ans - (B)
