Question 79

Ramesh had to obtain 36% marks to pass in an examination. He obtained 24% marks and failed by 9 marks. Find the maximum marks of the examination.

Solution

Let the maximum marks in the examination be $$100x$$

Acc. to ques,

=> $$\frac{36}{100} \times 100x = (\frac{24}{100} \times 100x) + 9$$

=> $$36x = 24x + 9$$

=> $$12x = 9$$

=> $$x = \frac{9}{12} = \frac{3}{4}$$

$$\therefore$$ Maximum marks = $$\frac{3}{4} \times 100 = 75$$
