Ravindra walks at 6 km/hr and Riya cycles at 11 km/hr towards each other. What was the distance between them when they started if they meet after 42 minutes?

Solution

Speed of Ravindra = 6 km/hr and Riya = 11 km/hr

Since they are moving in opposite direction, => Relative speed = 6 + 11 = 17 km/hr

Let distance between them = $$d$$ km and time = $$\frac{42}{60}$$ hr

=> time = distance/speed

=> $$\frac{d}{17} = \frac{42}{60}$$

=> $$d = \frac{42}{60} \times 17 = \frac{7 \times 17}{10}$$

=> $$d = \frac{119}{10} = 11.9$$ km

=> Ans - (D)
