If $$x + y + z = 360$$ and $$x : y : z = 4 : 3 : 2$$, then what is the value of $$y + z - x$$ ?

Solution

Given,

x + y + z = 360 and x : y : z = 4 : 3 : 2

let 4 : 3 : 2 = 4p : 3p : 2p

substituting it in x + y + z = 360,

4p + 3p + 2p = 360

9p = 360

p = 40

Therefore x : y : z = 4(40) : 3(40) : 2(40)

x : y : z = 160 : 120 : 80

substituting x,y,z in z + y - x ,

80 + 120 - 160 = 40.
