Let the ages of both the persons to be x and y. Then,
$$\frac{x}{y}$$=$$\frac{3}{4}$$
x =3$$\times\frac{y}{4}$$,
x = y-8
putting x value in the given equation. so y-8 = 3$$\times\frac{y}{4}$$
$$\frac{y}{4}$$ = 8
y = 32
x = y-8 =Â 32-8 = 24
Hence total ages of x and y = 24 +32= 56.
