Question 71

The sum of the salaries of A and B is ₹42,000. A spends 75% of his salary and B spends 90% of his salary. Now their savings are the same. What is B’ssalary (in ₹)?

Solution

let the salary of A=A and the salary of B=B

A+B=42000.....(1)

expenditure of A=75 %of A= $$\frac{3}{4}$$ A

expenditure of B=90% of B= $$\frac{9}{10}$$ B

saving of A= $$\frac{1}{4}$$ A

saving of B= $$\frac{1}{10}$$ B

saving of A=saving of B

 $$\frac{1}{4}$$ A= $$\frac{1}{10}$$ B

 $$\frac{A}{B}$$= $$\frac{2}{5}$$

 so, from the ratio, salary of A=2x and salary of B=5x

from equation (1),

2x+5x=42000

x=6000

salary of B= 5x=5*6000=30000
