The ratio of two numbers is 14 : 25. If the difference between them is 264, then whichis the smaller of the two numbers?

Solution

Let the two numbers be 14x and 25x
Difference between the numbers = 25x - 14x = 11x
Given, 11x = 264 => x = 24
Then, Smallest number $$= 14x = 14\times24 = 336$$
