Solution

In a municipal election three candidates, Santosh, Ravi, and Vipin, contested and the valid votes they got were in the ratio of 11 : 4 : 9.

Number of valid votes Santosh, Ravi, and Vipin got is 11y, 4y and 9y respectively.

If the winner defeated his nearest rival by 8350 votes.

11y = 9y+8350

11y-9y = 8350

2y = 8350

y = 4175

Number of valid votes were polled in that election = 11y+4y+9y

= 24y

= $$24\times4175$$

= 1,00,200
