Question 70

The average of 4 consecutive numbers is 64.5. What is the largest number among these numbers?

Solution

In the 4 consecutive numbers, let's assume the smallest number is 'y'.

So the 4 consecutive numbers will be y, (y+1), (y+2), (y+3)

The average of 4 consecutive numbers is 64.5.

$$y+(y+1)+(y+2)+(y+3) = 64.5\times4$$

4y+6 = 258

4y = 258-6

4y = 252

y = 63

The largest number among these numbers = (y+3)

= (63+3)

= 66
