Question 70

The average age of two friends, A and B, is 24 years. The average age of A, B and C is 22 years. What is the age of C?

Solution

The average age of two friends, A and B, is 24 years.

$$\frac{A+B}{2}\ =\ 24$$

A+B = 48    Eq.(i)

The average age of A, B and C is 22 years.

$$\frac{A+B+C}{3}\ =\ 22$$

A+B+C = 66    Eq.(ii)
Age of C = Eq.(ii)-Eq.(i)

= 66-48

= 18 years
