Question 70

In a bag there are coins of ₹5, ₹10 and ₹20 denominations. The total number of coins in the bag is 240. If the number of coins of ₹5, ₹10 and ₹20 denominations are in the ratio of 2 : 3 : 5, then what is the total amount of money in the bag?

Solution

If the number of coins of ₹5, ₹10 and ₹20 denominations are in the ratio of 2 : 3 : 5

Let's assume the number of coins of ₹5, ₹10 and ₹20 denominations are 2y, 3y and 5y.

The total number of coins in the bag is 240.

2y+3y+5y = 240

10y = 240

y = 24

Total amount of money in the bag = $$₹5 \times 2y+₹10 \times 3y+₹20 \times 5y$$

= $$10y+30y+100y$$

= 140y

Put the value of 'y'.

= $$140\times24$$

= ₹3,360
