Question 7

Which of the following statement(s) is/are TRUE?
I. $$1\frac{2}{3}+2\frac{3}{4}+3\frac{4}{5}>8$$

II. $$6\frac{1}{2}-5\frac{3}{4}+4\frac{1}{4}>5$$

Solution

$$1\frac{2}{3}+2\frac{3}{4}+3\frac{4}{5}$$

$$=\frac{5}{3}+\frac{11}{4}+\frac{19}{5}$$

$$=\frac{100+165+228}{60}.$$

$$=98.6\ .$$

(I) is correct choice.

$$6\frac{1}{2}-5\frac{3}{4}+4\frac{1}{4}$$

$$=\frac{13}{2}-\frac{23}{4}+\frac{17}{4}$$

$$=\frac{26-23+17}{4}.$$

$$=5.$$

So, (II) is not correct choice.

A is correct choice.
