Question 69

A circle and a rectangle have the same perimeter. The sides of the rectangle are 18 cm and 26 cm. Whatis the area of the circle?

Solution

Sides of rectangle are $$l=26$$ cm and $$b=18$$ cm

=> Perimeter of rectangle = $$2\times(26+18)=2\times44=88$$ cm

Let radius of circle be $$r$$ cm

=> Circumference of circle = $$2\pi r=88$$

= $$2\times\frac{22}{7}\times r=88$$

=> $$r=88\times\frac{7}{44}=14$$ cm

$$\therefore$$ Area of circle = $$\pi r^2$$

= $$\frac{22}{7}\times14\times14=616$$ $$cm^2$$

=> Ans - (D)
