Two numbers are, respectively, 17% and 50% less than a third number. The ratio of the two numbers is:
Solution
Let the third number be 100x.
Given,
First number is 17% less than third number ,
i.e; 100x - 17% of 100x = $$100x-\frac{17}{100}\times\ 100x=83x$$
Second number is 50% less than third number,
i.e; 100x - 50% of 100x = $$100x-\frac{50}{100}\times\ 100x=50x$$
Required Ratio = 83x : 50x = 83 : 50
Hence, Option D is correct.
