Two circles touch each other externally. The distance between their centres is 8 cm. If the radius of one circle is 3 cm, then the radius of the other circle is:

Two circles touch externally at point D as shown in figure

Radius of smaller circle = BD = 3 cm

Distance between the centres of the circles = 8 cm

$$\Rightarrow$$ AB = 8

$$\Rightarrow$$ AD + BD = 8

$$\Rightarrow$$ AD + 3 = 8

$$\Rightarrow$$ AD = 5 cm

$$\therefore\ $$Radius of other circle = AD = 5 cm

Hence, the correct answer is Option A
