Question 64

The ratio between two natural number is 3:4 , find the smallest number which must be added to both the numbers so that the ratio becomes 4:5 and the sum of the numbers after adding the smallest number will be 27.

Solution

Let the two numbers be 3x and 4x and 'y' be the smallest number that has to be added
(3x+y)/(4x+y)=4/5
15x+5y=16x+4y
x=y
Given sum of the numbers=27
3x+y+4x+y=27
7x+2y=27
9y=27
y=3=x
