Average weight of a group of 9 students is 43 kg. When a new student joins the group, the average weight of the group becomes 45 kg. What is the weight (in kg) of the new student?

Solution

Average weight of a group of 9 students = 43 kg

=> Total weight of the group = $$(43\times9)=387$$ kg

Let weight of the new student = $$x$$ kg

New average = $$\frac{387+x}{10}=45$$

=> $$387+x=45\times10=450$$

=> $$x=450-387=63$$ kg

=> Ans - (C)
