average of a and b is 36

$$\frac{a+b}{2}$$ = 36

a + b = 36 $$\times $$ 2 = 72 ------------------------------------------> equation 1

average of b and c is 42

$$\frac{b+ c}{2}$$ = 42

b + c = 42 $$\times $$ 2 = 84--------------------------------------------> equation 2

subtracting equation 2 from equation 1

(b + c )$$-$$ (a + b) = c - a = 84 -72 = 12

c -a = 12
