If a + 2b = 55 and a — 2b = -13, fmd the value of b.

a — 2b = -13....(2)

solving both the equations

a + 2b = 55 

=> a  = 55 - 2b ...(1)

put (1) in (2)

a — 2b = -13

( 55 - 2b) — 2b = -13

b = 17
