Question 63

A tin of oil was 4/5 full, when 10 bottles of oil were taken out and 6 bottles of oil were poured into it, it was 2/3 full. How many bottles of oil can the tin contain?

Let us assume the total quantity of the tin to be X bottles.
Earlier it was 4/5X.
Then we removed 10 bottles and poured 6 bottles which made it 2X/3 bottles full.
$$\frac{4X}{5}-10\ +\ 6\ =\ \frac{2X}{3}$$
$$\frac{2X}{15}=4$$
X = 30 bottles.
