Question 62

Two numbers are in the ratio of 3 : 4. If 8 be subtracted from each, then the new ratio becomes 17 : 24. What are the two numbers?

Solution

Let the numbers be $$3x$$ and $$4x$$ respectively.

According to ques,

=> $$\frac{3x-8}{4x-8}=\frac{17}{24}$$

=> $$72x-(24\times8)=68x-(17\times8)$$

=> $$72x-68x=(24\times8)-(17\times8)$$

=> $$4x=7\times8$$

=> $$x=\frac{56}{4}=14$$

$$\therefore$$ Numbers are = $$3\times14$$ and $$4\times14$$ = 42 and 56

=> Ans - (A)
