The sum of a non-zero number and thrice its reciprocal is 13/2. Find the number.

Solution

Let the number be $$x$$

According to ques, => $$x + \frac{3}{x} = \frac{13}{2}$$

=> $$\frac{x^2 + 3}{x} = \frac{13}{2}$$

=> $$2x^2 + 6 = 13x$$

=> $$2x^2 - 13x + 6 = 0$$

=> $$2x^2 - x - 12x + 6 = 0$$

=> $$x(2x - 1) - 6(2x - 1) = 0$$

=> $$(2x - 1)(x - 6) = 0$$

=> $$x = 6 , \frac{1}{2}$$

=> Ans - (A)
