A train runs at 80 kmph for the first 40 km and the next 30 km at 60 kmph. Find the average speed.

Solution

Time taken to cover 40 km = $$\frac{40}{80}=\frac{1}{2\ }\ hour$$

Time taken to cover 30 km = $$\frac{30}{60}=\frac{1}{2}\ hour$$

Average speed = $$\frac{Total\ dis\tan ce}{Total\ time}=\frac{70}{1}=70$$ kmph .
