Question 61

When a discount of 25% is given on a wedding gown, the profit is 32%. If the discount is 17%, then the profit is .

Solution

Let Marked Price = $$Rs. 100x$$

When discount is 25%, Selling price = $$\frac{75}{100} \times 100x = Rs. 75x$$

Let Cost price = $$Rs. y$$

Profit % = $$\frac{75x - y}{y} \times 100 = 32$$

=> $$\frac{75x - y}{y} = \frac{32}{100} = \frac{8}{25}$$

=> $$1875x - 25y = 8y$$

=> $$25y + 8y = 1875x$$

=> $$y = \frac{1875 x}{33} = 56.81x$$

When discount is 17%, Selling price = $$\frac{83}{100} \times 100x = Rs. 83x$$

$$\therefore$$ Profit % = $$\frac{83x - 56.81x}{56.81x} \times 100$$

$$\approx 46.08\%$$

=> Ans - (A)
