Question 60

If 4(2x -4) - 2 > 3x - 1 ≥ 4x -7, then x can take which of the following values?

Solution

Expression 1 : 4(2x -4) - 2 > 3x - 1

=> $$8x-16-2$$ > $$3x-1$$

=> $$8x-3x$$ > $$-1+18$$

=> $$x$$ > $$\frac{17}{5}$$ ------------(i)

Expression 2 : 3x - 1 ≥ 4x -7

=> $$4x-3x \leq -1+7$$

=> $$x \leq 6$$ -----------(ii)

Combining inequalities (i) and (ii), we get : $$\frac{17}{5}$$ < $$x \leq 6$$

The only value that $$x$$ can take among the options = 6

=> Ans - (B)
