Question 59

The average of seven numbers is 9. If each number is multiplied by a number P, then the average becomes 36. What is the value of P?

Solution

The average of seven numbers is 9.

The sum of seven numbers initially = $$9\times7$$ = 63    Eq.(i)

If each number is multiplied by a number P, then the average becomes 36.

The sum of seven numbers when each number is multiplied by a number P = $$36\times7$$ = 252    Eq.(ii)

Eq.(i) $$\times$$ P = Eq.(ii)

$$63\times P = 252$$

Value of P = 4
