A and B together can do a piece of work in 6 days. If A can alone do the work in 18 days, then the number of days required for B to finish the work is

Solution

Let total work to be done = 18 units

Rate at which A & B finish the work = $$\frac{18}{6}$$ = 3 units/day

Now, A alone finish work in 18 days

=> Rate at which A alone finish work = $$\frac{18}{18}$$ = 1 unit/day

Now, rate at which B alone finishes = 3-1 = 2 units/day

=> Number of days required by B to finish the work = $$\frac{18}{2}$$ = 9 days
