Question 58

If A : B = 5 : 4, B : C = 6 : 5 C : D = 7 : 10 then what is the value of A : D?

Solution

A : B = 5 : 4    Eq.(i)

B : C = 6 : 5    Eq.(ii)

C : D = 7 : 10    Eq.(iii)

Multiply Eq.(i) by 3 and Eq.(ii) by 2 to merge the equations.

A : B : C = $$5\times3$$ : $$4\times3$$ : $$5\times2$$

= 15 : 12 : 10    Eq.(iv)

Multiply Eq.(iv) by 7 and Eq.(iii) by 10 to merge the equations.

A : B : C : D = $$15\times7$$ : $$12\times7$$ : $$10\times7$$ : $$10\times10$$

= 105 : 84 : 70 : 100

value of A : D = 105 : 100 = 21 : 20
