Question 57

The length of the diagonal of a rectangle is 26 cm and that of one side is 10 cm. What is the area of this rectangle?

Solution

Let breadth of the rectangle $$b$$ = 10 cm and diagonal $$d$$ = 26 cm

Let length of rectangle = $$l$$ cm

Using, $$(l)^2 + (b)^2 = (d)^2$$

=> $$(l)^2 + (10)^2 = (26)^2$$

=> $$(l)^2 = 676 - 100 = 576$$

=> $$l = \sqrt{576} = 24$$ cm

$$\therefore$$ Area of rectangle = $$l \times b$$

= $$24 \times 10 = 240 cm^2$$
