Question 57

A cylindrical pillar is 75 cm in diameter and 5.6 m in height. The cost of painting the curved surface of the pillar at the rate of ₹15 per $$m^{2}$$ is:
(Taken $$\pi=\frac{22}{7}$$)

Solution

A cylindrical pillar is 75 cm in diameter and 5.6 m in height.

diameter of cylindrical pillar = 75 cm

As we know that 1 m = 100 cm. So 75 cm = 0.75 m

radius of cylindrical pillar = $$\frac{0.75}{2}$$ m

= 0.375 m

curved surface area of the pillar = $$2\times\ \pi\ \times\ radius\times\ height$$

= $$2\times\ \frac{22}{7}\ \times0.375\times\ 5.6$$

= $$44\times0.375\times\ 0.8$$

= 13.2 $$m^{2}$$

The cost of painting the curved surface of the pillar at the rate of ₹15 per $$m^{2}$$ = $$15\times13.2$$

= ₹198
