Question 54

The ratio of the present ages of A and is 6 : 5. Four years ago, this ratio was 5 : 4. What will be the ratio of the ages of A and B after 12 years from now ?

Solution

let their present ages be 6x and 5x

Four years ago their ages must be (6x-4) and (5x-4) and the ratio was 5:4

Hence $$\frac{6x-4}{5x-4}$$=$$\frac{5}{4}$$

24x-16=25x-20

-16+20=25x-24x

Therefore x=4

Thus their present ages is 6x and 5x

Hence 6x=6×4=24

And 5x=5×4=20

Then we have to find ratio of the ages of A after 12 years from now

Their ages after 12 years Will be 24+12=36 and 20+12=32

The ratio of between the ages of two persons after 12 years will be 36:32 or 9:8
