If a : b = 5 : 7, then (5a - 3b) : (4a - 2b) is equal to:

Solution

Given ,

a : b = 5 : 7

 (5a - 3b) : (4a - 2b)

Divide numerator and denominator by b , we get

$$\frac{5\frac{a}{b} - 3}{4\frac{a}{b} - 2}$$

= $$\frac{\frac{25}{7} - 3}{\frac{20}{7} - 2}$$

=$$\frac{4}{6}$$

=$$\frac{2}{3}$$

So , the answer would be option a) 2:3.
