Question 53

The sum of salaries of A and B is ₹43000. A spends 95% of his salary and B spends 80% of his salary. If their savings are the same, whatis A’s salary (in ₹)?

Solution

given that sum of salaries of A and B is 43000

let the salary of A be 100a and B be 100b

A spent 95% of his salary i.e; his savings are 5%

i.e; $$\frac{5}{100}a$$ = 0.05a

B spent 80% of his salary i.e; 20% is his savings

i.e; $$\frac{20}{100}\ b=$$ o.2b

given that savings of both A and B are same

so,0.05a=0.2b

$$b=\frac{a}{4}$$

given that a+b = 43000

$$a+\frac{a}{4}$$ = 43000

$$\frac{5a}{4}=43000$$

a = 34400

Hence answer is option b
