Rohit walks at 17 km/hr and Ruchira cycles at 22 km/hr towards each other. What was the distance between them when they started if they meet after 44 minutes?

Solution

Speed of Rohit = 17 km/hr and speed of Ruchira = 22 km/hr

They are travelling towards each other, thus relative speed = 17 + 22 = 39 km/hr

Time taken = 44 min = $$\frac{44}{60}$$ hr = $$\frac{11}{15}$$ hr

Distance = speed $$\times$$ time

= $$39 \times \frac{11}{15} = \frac{143}{5}$$

= $$28.6$$ km
