Question 52

If the salary of A is 12% more than that of B, then by what percentage is the salary of B less than that of A? [Give your answer correct to 1 place of decimal.]

Solution

Let's assume the salary of B is 100y.

If the salary of A is 12% more than that of B.

the salary of A = 100y of (100+12)%

= $$100y\times\frac{112}{100}$$

 = 112y

the percentage is the salary of B less than that of A = $$\frac{\left(112y-100y\right)}{112y}\times100$$

= $$\frac{12y}{112y}\times100$$

= 10.7% (approx.)
