Question 51

The average of 20 numbers is 36. If each number is increased by 4, then what will be the new average?

Solution

The average of 20 numbers is 36.

The sum of 20 numbers = $$36\times20$$ = 720

If each number is increased by 4.

New average = $$\frac{720+4\times\ 20}{20}$$

= $$\frac{720+80}{20}$$

= $$\frac{800}{20}$$

= 40
