A mixture gave a light yellow precipitate with silver nitrate which did not dissolve completely with ammonia solution. It gave a positive chromyl chloride test. When the organic layer test was performed with addition of excess of concentrated nitric acid, a violet coloured organic layer first formed which then changed to orange colour.
