The total of ages of X, Y and Z is 27. X is 2 years older than Y and Y is twice as old as Z. What is the age of Y?

Solution

total of ages of X, Y and Z is 27

let age of Z be a

then age of Y = 2a

age of X = 2 + 2a

2 + 2a + 2a + a = 27

5a = 25

$$ a = \frac{25}{5} =5 $$

$$ age of Y = 2 \times 5 =10 $$
