Little wooden cubes each with a side of one inch are put together to form a solid cube with a side of three inches. This big cube is then painted red all over on the outside. When the big cube is broken up into the original little ones, how any cubes will have paint on two sides ?

To make a cube of side of 3 inch, total 27 cubes will be needed of 1 inch
And cubes having 2 side painted will be 2nd cube of 1st and 3rd row of every surface. Moreover in the middle row, there will be 2 cubes on both faces which have 2 sides painted
So total will be 12 small cubes having 2 side painted.
