Two years ago a man was six times as old as his son. In 18 years, he will be twice as old as
his son. What are their present ages of the man and his son?

Solution

Suppose Man's age = M

Son's age = S

By the problem,

M - 2 = 6(S- 2)

M- 2 = 6S -12

6S - M = 10... (i)

M + 18 = 2 ( S + 18)

M + 18 = 2S + 36

M -2S = 18.....(ii)
